New Orleans French Quarter, Cemeteries, and City Park

Probably our longest walking day so far. We started with beignets (and a bloody mary for Christy) back at Cafe Beignet before wandering through the French Quarter until we had to stop and hydrate across from Jackson Square and St Louis Cathedral (photo below). New Orleans is definitely the most fragrant (and not alwaysin a good way) stop so far. Next destination was the French Market (a little like the Portland Saturday Market) followed by the LaLaurie House where some lady used to keep and torture her slaves. After ice cream back at the French Market,  we made our way back to Canal Street and took the streetcar all the way to the end of the line at the cemeteries. Most of the cemeteries had just closed but we still saw plenty before walking toward City Park. We took a brief stop at Subway to rehydrate and feed the kids before walking through the park to past Storyland (recommended by Christy's good friend Sonja who is from New Orleans) and the New Orleans Museum of Art. Will and I played a little catch. Finally, took the Canal Streetcar back to our hotel and got the kids a well-deserved swim. We had a good lightening show off in the distance just as we were heading back up to the room.

Statues are of Confederate General Beauregard (at entrance to at museum) and Joan of Arc (gold statue near the French Market).
