Independence Park and a Phillies game

Woke up in our phone booth sized room with our laundry hanging everywhere to dry. They have free laundry facilities here but they are less than stellar. We walked to the Dutch Eating Place in the Reading Terminal Market for breakfast. The market is awesome if you are looking for some food..... especially pastries. The Apple Dumplings from the Dutch Eating Place have been featured on the Food Network. Dumpling was really good as was the apple cinnamon French toast. After finishing breakfast and walking the market, we walked the 6 or so blocks to Independence Park to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Took a few obligatory photos before walking on to Franklin Square. On the way to Franklin Square we stumbled upon Benjamin Franklin's grave in a small cemetery. In Franklin Square, Will and Jessi played a game of mini golf on the Philadelphia themed course while I kept score. Nana and Papa sat this round out to cool off. It was much more humid and warm compared to the 80ish degrees and low humidity that we lucked out with in Washington. While we golfed, Christy walked another 8 or so blocks to the Edgar Allen Poe house but found it to be closed.  Bummer. We all hiked back to the hotel around 4 and cooled off for 45 minutes before catching the subway to the game. I can't say the Philadelphia subway is my favorite or most intuitive but we made it to the stadium about an hour before first pitch. The game was moving right along until the 4th inning when there was an hour long rain/lightening delay. The lightening was a good show with huge spider - like bolts stretching across the sky. Nana, Papa and I each had a cheesesteak from Tony Luke's (really good even if it isn't from the more iconic Pat's or Geno's) while we waited for the weather to pass from under cover. The Giants ended up scoring the first runs off the game on a Hunter Pence bases clearing double with 2 outs in the 9th and they won 3-1. The game ended about 11:15 and we were back at the hotel booth by 12:15.
