Little bit of a short night (mostly for kids) after touring the monuments late last night....but we still slept until 10:30. Had breakfast at the Corner Bakery and headed to Nationals Ballpark via Metro around 12:30. The ballpark is still relatively new (2008 opening) and it looks like the development around the park is just getting started. We did a walk around the park to make sure we didn't miss anything and it's pretty bland on the outside. Almost everyone seems to enter through the center field gate since it's most convenient when exiting the Metro station. The other sides of the stadium were nearly empty. The best part of the stadium is probably the food selection. Our least favorite parts were the customer service (non-existent) and the lame restaurant on the main level behind home plate that's exclusive to the Diamond Club seating. If you aren't sitting in the super expensive seats there's no way to see the game (even walking by) from behind home plate. We still managed to have a good time and the game wasn't bad either (walk off win for Nats over Brewers in 9th). We also ran into our friend, Sharon, Allegra's mom. Allegra saw that both her mom and the 6 of us were at the same game. We made our way over to see her in the 9th. That was a bonus. After the game we took Metro to the Pentagon to see the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial. Shortly after we got there we ran into a man who used to work at the Pentagon and he explained to us all the details on how the monument was constructed. For example, each "wing" has a name on the end. The wings are positioned in one of two ways, either pointing toward the Pentagon or away from the Pentagon. If you can see both the name and the Pentagon (without turning your head) at the same time, then that person perished in the Pentagon. If you can only see the sky when you look up from the person's name on the wing then that person perished in the plane. There all also names in the water below some of the wings to indicate whether that person was traveling with someone else. He had a ton of other details as well. After the Pentagon Memorial, we trained back to Union Station, got some dinner, went for a swim and called it a day.
Happy Anniversary, Ryan & Christy!
