Christy's birthday!! Quick bite to eat in the hotel Starbucks and we were on the road for Chicago by 11ish. After 4 hours of driving we stopped in South Bend, IN at Notre Dame. We found a 1 hr parking space so took in as much of the campus as we could in one hour. The campus is pristine. Pictures probably don't do it justice. Will have to return for a game some day. We were back on the road for the remaining 90 miles to Chicago by 5pm and arrived at the hotel (Hotel Godfrey) by 6:30ish. After checking in, we walked the 5 blocks to Lou Malnati's for pizza. The wait was about an hour so we all had a drink and some salad at the neighboring Bull & Bear while we waited. (The "Play Like A Champion Today" sign is actually from the Bull & Bear....not Notre Dame. :-) )Pizza at Lou's was really good...I think my Dad and I actually picked up some take out from this same Lou's 7 years ago on our last sabbatical trip. After dinner, we walked a few blocks south on Wells St over the Chicago River and then back up to the hotel via LaSalle St.
